    Our History

Established in 1985, Winmore Agencies (originally spelled Wynmore Agencies) started as a side hustle for then sole proprietor Les Beardmore to supply additional products he saw a need for while acting as a representative for Wynns. Little did he know that it would soon become a lifelong pursuit.

Originally based in Wilderness in the Western Cape, he soon spotted an opportunity for growth in the Northern Cape and moved to Kakamas to establish himself and the company there.

Shortly after the move to the Northern Cape our house brand, Gemskem, was born. Originally comprising a single product, Penetran, the brand soon grew with additional products like Skitter and Gasket Makers introduced in the following years.

Initially working out of a small, rented garage in Kakamas, business soon expanded to the point where additional storage was needed and a separate premises with sufficient storage for the business was purchased.

This premises was then expanded upon in the early 1990s to allow for larger stock holding and better warehousing.

Having established the company in the Northern Cape, Les left a stock holding branch in Kakamas managed by his son, Christopher, while he moved to Vanrhynsdorp in 2001 to open a secondary branch there to start operating in the Western Cape.

Product sales and deliveries were initially done on site at the customer with stock being transported in a panel van functioning as a mobile sales unit. With the gradual increase in ranges offered and products carried a panel van soon became too small and larger vehicles were needed. Initially a larger van was used and then eventually a 5th wheel horse & trailer combination.

Joining the company as a sales representative in 2006 Richard, Les’ other son, took over sales responsibilities in the Western Cape area with Les concentrating on the financial and operations responsibilities.

With the addition of some new brands and product lines the existing business model of driving stock in a mobile sales unit became impractical and the decision was made to centralize all stock holding and distribution at the Vanrhynsdorp premises with deliveries being handled by truck, van and courier services henceforth. This also necessitated the move to larger premises in Vanrhynsdorp which was completed in 2012.

Having laid the foundation and having provided many years of mentoring and guidance, Les retired in 2015 and Richard took over management of the company, with Christopher handling sales and marketing.

Being an entrepreneur his whole life and having a drive to keep busy Les would not stay retired and soon returned in 2017 to assist part-time; initially with sales and marketing and then moving on to debtor and creditor management.

Les continued to assist part-time until his health declined in late 2021 and his eventual passing in January 2022.

Having outgrown our premises again, a new premises was purchased in 2021 with construction on a larger warehouse capable of housing our current stock holding and ranges finishing in late 2023.

Currently the company is still a family-owned enterprise with Richard managing the company in the spirit and principles laid down and envisioned by Les all those years ago.
